The final battle between Good and Evil kicked off Friday during the series premiere of The CW’s The Messengers.

Here’s what went down in a nutshell: a meteor — or something meteor-esque — crashed into Earth, causing five seemingly unrelated strangers to lose consciousness and develop supernatural abilities: visions of the future, super-human strength, etc.

Among those affected by the impact were rocket scientist Vera (One Tree Hill‘s Shantel VanSanten), single mom Erin (Gossip Girl‘s Sofia Black-D’Elia), troubled teen Peter (The Haunting Hour‘s Joel Courtney), wanted criminal Raul (Revolution‘s JD Pardo) and televangelist Joshua (City of Dreams‘ Jon Fletcher).
